I'm back home in my bed. And I sort of wish that I weren't. I mean, it's nice to see my family and to relax for a bit, but there's a reason why I'm only staying for a day. I can't deal with them all again. Plus, at least I got food to eat at school! I came back and there was nothing to eat -_-
On the bright side, I got three more of the books I ordered. One of which is The Book Thief. I'm excited about that one.
Oh, and apparently my dad switched up my room like the day after I moved out so it looks odd. But I still have all my stuff so it's okay. I did have to move my cranes though. They were being blocked by the dresser. I like them in their new spot though. There's lots of light to showcase my hard work :)

Oh! And of course it was nice to see my brother this morning too! He came by to drop off my package and we had breakfast together and caught up. It started my day off well.

Lord of the Flies

Even though everyone else has read that book back in like the 8th grade, I've never read it before. So I borrowed it from the library. I remembering randomly seeing it on TV when I was younger (I'll never forget the scene Piggy got murdered...) but it took a while to actually sit down and read it because I wasn't really into it. Still, I finished it tonight... finally. And you know what I think?
...
I conclude that it's one of the most immoral books I've ever read. Seriously? Kids murdering other kids? That's sick. I was completely unsatisfied. Though I must admit that the fact that it did get my blood boiling makes it a pretty good book. That's why students across America are still reading it today. It's just like Kite Runner. Now that book was messed up... smh.
I think my favorite part was the part where the title of the story comes into play lol. You know those books that have really weird titles and the entire time you're reading you just want to figure out why the author chose that title? Yeah. That's Lord of the Flies. That was the most fun I had while reading it haha.

“There is no magic cure..."
“There is no magic cure, no making it all go away forever. There are only small steps upward; an easier day, an unexpected laugh, a mirror that doesn't matter anymore.”

Sarah Dessen
I spent the majority of my day reading Just Listen and I was severely disappointed when I finished. I got over halfway through it then I couldn't help but skip pages at a time and skim for the most interesting parts. I guess ever since that summer I read a stack of her books and a whole bunch of other teen romances, the plot doesn't interest me anymore. Her stories are always the same: Girl has a problem (she's been sexually assaulted, her parents are breaking up, she lost her best friend, someone died, etc.), Girl has trouble coping and growing up, Magical Guy comes along and "saves" her, they get together, they break up, she gets her life together, they get back together again, they live happily ever after. It's stupid. She recycles the same storyline and pumps out another book for romantic tweens with unrealistic expectations of their first relationship to scoop up diligently. Ridiculous. How is she making so much money off this crap? It's not even remotely realistic. And would it kill her to have a female main character than solves her own problems? Does a guy have to come along in her life for her to realize what she has to do? Do heroines not exist anymore?
By the way, one character in that book was described as having "olive skin" and "dark hair"........ seriously? That's happened in pretty much every other book I've read that mentions a black person. Is it considered inappropriate for an author to say that a character is "black" or "African American"? How about just "dark skinned"?
